As a Staff/Principal Backend Engineer at Superstate, you will be at the forefront of financial technology innovation, building and optimizing the core infrastructure for our tokenized asset trading platform. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Building ultra-low latency trading engines and execution systems primarily in Rust.
• Designing and implementing high-performance order matching and routing systems.
• Optimizing system architecture to achieve microsecond-level latency requirements.
• Developing APIs and integrations with various exchanges and liquidity providers.
• Leading performance profiling, benchmarking, and ongoing optimization efforts.
• Collaborating enthusiastically within a small, agile team, taking ownership of projects and planning for long-term impact.
• Mentoring and teaching other engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient individual who thrives in challenging, high-stakes environments. The minimum qualifications for this role include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field.
• A minimum of 9 years of professional engineering experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in Rust, with a strong focus on zero-copy operations, lock-free programming, and memory optimization.
• Extensive experience in building ultra-low latency trading systems (HFT/high-frequency trading).
• Deep understanding of network protocols, kernel bypass techniques, and hardware acceleration.
• Proven track record of optimizing for sub-millisecond latencies in production trading environments.
• Experience with CPU pinning and low-level performance tuning.

**Desirable Skills and Experience:**

• Familiarity with SQL, including query planning and optimization.
• Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, and creative problem-solving skills with a strong analytical mindset.
• Experience with FPGA programming or hardware acceleration.
• Experience with market data feed handlers and order management systems.
• Experience with Pulumi or Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Proficiency with AWS services (RDS, EC2, ECS, Kubernetes) and Cloudflare.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Docker.
• Familiarity with the current DeFi ecosystem.
